About Zoe

Zoe Sayers

Head of Training

Zoe studied for a BSc (Hons) in Physical Geography with Geology before following up with an MSc in Disaster Management for Environmental Hazards. During this time she also carried out fieldwork in varied and high hazard areas and engaged in field exercise disaster simulations in Finland with a combined team of military and international responders.

Initially working as a hazard and risk consultant, Zoe then completed a PGCE at Canterbury Christ Church University before starting work as a secondary school Geography teacher pre-covid. She continued to work as a teacher through the pandemic combining this with her voluntary responding work.

Zoe has a significant history of working operationally within voluntary organisations having previously been a member of a South Wales based Mountain Rescue Team and UK disaster response charity Team Rubicon UK/RE:ACT, with most of her deployments coming during their UK Covid Response where she undertook roles supporting the set-up of a food distribution hub in Guildford, a mass vaccination facility in Plymouth, and leading teams working in a Kent care home and providing SECAMB with assistance to clean & restock ambulances during the height of the pandemic.

For this work, Zoe was awarded the British Empire Medal in the King’s 2023 New Year Honours.

Zoe is a qualified UAV operator, TRiM Assessor and youth mental health first aider. Working as a teacher throughout Covid also gave her a depth of practical experience in hybrid education methods, as well as in the creation of CPD materials and tailored curriculum design. She is a UN certified Climate Change Educator, and has both formal qualifications and proven field skills in GIS and Remote Sensing.
